Featuring 10,350 sq. ft. of our UniQuad system, the Queen’s Place Recreation Centre is a symbol of renewal for a town that has seen its share of tough economic times. The Centre houses an NHL-sized ice rink, three basketball courts, a state of the art fitness center, and indoor walking tracks – all of which are protected from glare thanks to our translucent façade. The UniQuad system, specified in clear matte over bronze glazing, features the name of the recreation center in opaque letters near the entrance and provides a seamless, unique aesthetic across the entire facility.

Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre

September 16, 2021

The Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre was designed to accommodate world class athletic performance in every way – even down to its translucent façade, which minimizes glare for the athletes to focus on their training while resembling a wave in its design to reflect the athletes and spectators that enter. The glass below our incorporated system provides views to the exterior, which was an important aspect to the architect, and 12,700 sq. ft. of our UniQuad translucent wall system maintains streams of soft, natural, and uniform daylight across the arena suitable for competition while reducing glare and heat gain within the building.

Richmond Olympic Oval

September 10, 2021

The Richmond Olympic Oval was created for the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, but thanks to its flexible design it has been used for a wide variety of sport and community uses since then. The heron, the official symbol of the city of Richmond, and the river next to the building serve as the inspiration for the architectural design, achieving a fluid, seamless look. We collaborated with Cannon Design on the Oval to create a translucent building façade that featured 12 custom shades of blue, which was easy to achieve due to the UniQuadÒ system’s versatile color options. It achieved LEED Silver certification from the USGBC.

As schools everywhere tackle the challenges of online and in-person learning, translucent panel canopies can provide a safe and practical solution with shaded outdoor classroom spaces. Guardian 275® canopies and awnings offer a flexible, open-air environment where students can gather and learn while being shielded from potential rain and direct sunlight. While direct sunlight can be hot and create glare, translucent canopies help make outdoor spaces more comfortable so students can sit and focus on their work in a relaxed setting. This also allows students to benefit from the fresh air, natural light, and views that come with being outside, which studies have shown to improve a student’s mental health as well as academic performance.

Guardian 275® translucent panels also make for a functional and eye-catching entrance canopy to protect students and their work from inclement weather during school drop-off and pickup. Click HERE to learn more about Major Industries line of canopy solutions.

Major Industries has new website tool for Architects/Designers

May 18, 2021

RPC is pleased to announce a new design tool from Major Industries to assist Architects and Designers.

PRESS RELEASE: NEW WEBSITE TOOL FOR ARCHITECTS/DESIGNERS

With more and more people working remotely and self-sourcing product information, we’re always looking for more convenient ways to provide architects and designers the information they’re looking for, while also allowing us to see which products and materials are being searched and utilized. Because of this, Major recently teamed up with a company called Concora to set up a “Design Studio” link that contains all of our technical information, including drawings and product literature, BIM models and other related information.

The Design Studio is set up in an easy-to-search format where users can filter by all types of parameters (sheet color, glazing material, etc.) and get access to all our data in one spot instead of having to get items piece-by-piece. We’ve added links to the Studio throughout the site, including the home page and product and technical pages, with the hope that in some ways it replaces our typical “tech binder” for most uses, and allows users to find the info they need more quickly.  (You can see the page here – https://majorskylights.concora.com/ . Also note that users can still access our technical information the traditional way. )

The tool requires a name and email to access specific info, allowing us to view that information and better understand how our technical information is being used. Architects/designers can also store their own project information in their account, “tagging” us to specific projects which we can then search and follow up on. We’ve also included links to our standard quote form and to the rep network map for easy access to contacts if users have additional questions.

4 Most Common Reasons for Replacing Skylights

March 18, 2021

Whether you’re replacing a dilapidated skylight, upgrading the thermal performance of a window/wall system, or simply replacing a storm damaged daylighting system, we have a solution to fit your needs and budge.

  1.  Broken
Whether it be broken panels or impaired functionality, you may choose to replace your old skylight to gain the enhanced convenience and beauty of our newest generation of products.

  2. Degradation Affecting Performance
Why suffer through poor light quality and thermal performance? By replacing an old skylight, you can enjoy the modern benefits of increased energy efficiency and better quality of light.

  3. Leaking
Water intrusion can cause significant damage in your building, be it slow or sudden. Replacing your leaking unit with one of our standard or custom-built skylights will allow you to permanently resolve this issue quickly and easily.

  4. Wrong Application/Lighting Solution
It’s important to know how to best utilize skylights in your commercial space. When defining the interior of a space, you may find you want to alter or enhance the effect a skylight has by updating it with a different style or new function.

Is It Difficult to Replace Skylights?

We would first set up a site visit to determine the best daylighting product and to examine the curb conditions and dimensions.

  • Quote
Based on the site visit, we will generate a quote and upon your approval, supply submittal drawings.

  • Fabrication & Shipping
Once the submittal drawings are approved, we will fabricate any custom products to be shipped to the jobsite or ship a standard product from our inventory.

  • Installation
If you choose RPC as your installation company, we will provide all the necessary equipment to remove & dispose of the old skylights and install the new ones.

No matter what the system, our goal is your satisfaction. From initial quote to manufacture to installation and beyond, our products are only as good as our customer service, and we want to make finding, specifying, ordering and installing our daylighting systems as simple and worry-free as possible.
