“The project goals,” relates Carin Whitney, Kieran Timberlake’s communications director, “included providing savannah-like views of the Chesapeake Bay and opening the interior fully for natural ventilation, and to give it a porch-like feel. The plan also called for trapping the radiant heat that forms in the cavity between layers, to provide thermal insulation when the exterior acrylic doors are in the closed position.
Bunjil Place: The Multi Award-Winning Building
Bunjil Place is a $125 million multipurpose arts, civic and community facility in the outer Melbourne suburb of Narre Warren, housing a library, 800-seat theatre, gathering and meeting spaces, council offices, an art gallery, a flexible event space and an outdoor plaza. The facility is the first of its kind, bringing together creativity, entertainment and community in a way that is unparalleled in Australia.
The multi award-winning building was designed by FJMT and inspired by Bunjil, a character in Aboriginal mythology who created the land, animals and people. Bunjil placed a huge sense of importance on sustainability, encouraging the preservation of the environment, a point which trickled into the choices that were made in terms of the building’s design and construction.
Sustainability was front of mind in the design of this building which utilises environmentally-friendly building materials and high performance façades to make the building as sustainable and energy efficient as possible. One of the building’s most striking features is its curved roof, a complex and ambitious architectural design. Mythology recounts that Bunjil morphed into an eagle to watch over his people, and two large wooden features, descending from the roof, resemble his wings.
The Glasshouse, Manhattan New York – Case Study
The Glasshouse is a 35,000 sq. ft all exterior glass wall event space overlooking the Hudson River in Manhattan. The Design Team wished to maintain this exterior view from within by using a 15’ tall moveable acoustic glass wall system: let the outside in. This design objective required solid acoustic panels and glass panels that could be interchanged freely in order to configure the meeting areas as dictated by specific requirements. This need required the design and installation of a fool proof grid of intersecting overhead track & intersections (2200 lineal feet), special width solid and glass panels (3 widths) and a flexible expandable panel closure system. As an overhead track structural steel was not part of the initial project design the Moderco distributor, Value Added Group, designed and installed a complete steel strut support system.

Woodfold
Project Type: Executive Office
Problem: Merging a relaxed, open-door management style with a periodic need for privacy and quiet.
Solution/Description of the Installation: By combining Woodfold’s Series 440/540 Visifold see-through doors with hardwood panels, the office designer was able to create the inviting sense of openness his executive client requested, but still provide private spaces when needed. Installation on a curved track added to the office’s architectural interest.
Loblolly House
“Named for the tall pines that characterize its site on the Chesapeake Bay,” says design firm Kieran Timberlake of Loblolly House, “this 2,200 square-foot single family residence seeks to deeply fuse the natural elements of this barrier island to architectural form.”
Loblolly is also a forward-thinking experiment in prefabricated residential architecture. With this goal in mind, the designers were looking not only for a home that suits its sylvan surroundings, but one with repeatable results. NanaWall’s engineering and manufacture turned out to be particularly apt for meeting these goals.

Indianapolis Zoo Bicentennial Pavilion
When the Indianapolis Zoo was given a $10 million grant, the one condition for using it was that it needed to implement an initiative that benefits the community’s goal of long-term sustainability. The result? The zoo’s bicentennial pavilion, which hosts a wide range of events and is protected from weather by our U-Lite™ canopy system. Modeled after a lush rain forest, and crafted primarily from natural materials, the space houses 11 “pods” for up to 1,000 seated attendees and is the perfect environment for the Macaws presentation it currently hosts. The canopies allow for 100% collection of rainwater, which percolates into an aquifer as opposed to being discharged to city sewers, achieving the sustainability goals and requirements for the project.
Sadye Gibbs Martin Community Center- Major Industries
Location: Plant City, FL
System: Guardian 275® Wall Systems
Architect: The Lunz Group
Contractor: Trias Construction
When Plant City’s beloved, nearly 50-year-old community center was damaged during Hurricane Irma, the difficult decision was made to demolish the aging center and build a more modern, resilient one in its place. The goal was to build a lasting facility that, like the one before it, will provide a safe and welcoming place for the Plant City community to come together. With this vision in mind, the city partnered with The Lunz Group to design a vibrant, new community center that’s dedicated to sustainability and weather preparedness, and that future generations will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
