“Minimal Sliding Glass Walls Frame the Sea in this Coastal Gem
The sparkling aquamarine waters of the North Atlantic Ocean can be seen from nearly every room of this Chatham coast residence. The Cape Cod style gem is surrounded by sand dunes and strategically placed coastal grasses to enhance its surrounding landscape and the area’s conservational regulations. For Aaron Polhemus, owner and CEO of architecture and construction firm, Polhemus Savery DaSilva, the site offered more than enough potential for a new and improved custom home to be immediately put on the market. The existing property, a small house with a garage, was torn down and built anew to take advantage of the picturesque location with contemporary solutions like floor-to-ceiling minimal sliding glass doors.”
This new, two-story, 50,000-square foot Audi dealership, opened in Devon, PA in December, 2014. It’s the first flagship terminal for Audi of America in the Philadelphia market.
The owner, YBH Auto Group, wanted to make a bold, eye-catching statement since the dealership is located on a street with several luxury dealerships such as Mercedes Benz and Maserati. YBH Audi includes a showroom with reception and office space, a service and repair shop and a car wash. Minimizing sound emitted from the business was also a priority because a residential area is directly behind the dealership.
Interior designer Susanne Sudholz (née Martitz) set out to design an unconventional, eye-catching and energy-efficient home for her family. With a passion for sustainable building design, Sudholz selected the Kingspan insulated roof and wall panels for both their aesthetics and their environmental credentials.
CRF completed installation of two Signature 8500 Operable Walls at the Bangor Aviation Readiness Center in Bangor, Maine in early 2015.
On February 2, 2004, the University of Colorado Hospital opened the beautiful new Anschutz Cancer Pavilion on the new Fitzsimons Campus located in Aurora, Colorado. Physicians, employees and patients participated in the design of the state-of- the-art $148.8 million hospital, helping the architects achieve a functional, efficient building with spectacular views of the nearby Rocky Mountains. An important sustainability goal was to maximize the use of natural daylight, while using energy efficient controls to turn-off light fixtures in corridors and exterior areas during bright daylight hours. The reliance on natural daylight resulted in the design team’s need to control glare and heat transmitted through glazing and window systems.

Situated in the Bath Conservation Area, the stunning grade II listed building has been renovated and expanded by Acorn Property Group to create a series of luxury apartments and homes.
The main building, which previously served as an all-girls high school, has been carefully converted into apartments. The grounds were divided into four residential quarters and several new build homes were constructed around the main building to offer a variety of accommodation options.
Architects, Nash Partnership, were mindful to ensure that the additional properties would be in keeping with the area. The building exterior references Bath’s famed Georgian aesthetic whilst internal spaces include all the benefits of modern construction.
To optimise space within the properties whilst ensuring they meet modern thermal performance standards, Kingspan Kooltherm® K108 Cavity Board was specified for the walls of the new buildings whilst Kingspan Kooltherm K7 Pitched Roof Board was chosen for the pitched roofs – minimising heat loss whilst maintaining head height in the top floor rooms.
Marriott’s Tacoma mid-rise hotel brings high-class style to this downtown’s core. Located adjacent to the Convention Center, a block away from the University of Washington’s branch campus and within walking distance of the Museum of Glass , Lemay America Car Museum and Tacoma Art Museum, this hotel will see a large variation of guest. As such high quality, flexible meeting and event space was a priority. The Banquet Room features two 85’w x 23’h Moderco 841 Signature Series systems with high STC ratings and curve & diverter track system for easy operation. In addition, two smaller 842 series, paired panel systems were used in smaller meeting rooms. NWAP’s team did a superb job completing this project.
“We do this a lot in our projects,” says Joe Rommel, the architect whose name is virtually synonymous with gorgeous custom homes, duplexes and renovations on Vancouver’s North Shore and the Sea to Sky corridor.
The namesake of Rommel Design Ltd. is referring to the design philosophy of using indoor-outdoor spaces to enhance life at home – and his two decades worth of residential projects back up his comment.
One of the most impressive is a rather grand lakefront chalet in the scenic resort town of Whistler, B.C., where a NanaWall WA67 installation spans almost 20 feet across the living and dining areas, opening up to impressive views of the southern Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains. It’s a contemporary gesture for a decidedly modern, stunning residence.
When the architecture firm was approached to design the “cottage” for the client, David Chapman, “I knew immediately that it was to become more than that,” says the architect.
The client expressed his intent to utilize the NanaWall system throughout to bring the outdoors in. “Initially, I thought this to be somewhat of a challenge, especially in Whistler where winter does dominate. However, it seemed to work well,” says Rommel.
